Jack was born and raised in
Dallas, a fifth generation Texan. He attended Highland Park High School and
North Texas State College (before it was a University). He has been in almost
every kind of business one could be in. In his teens and twenties he was a
professional musician and pilot. During this time he also worked in the family
home building business. In 1973 he went to work full time in the family
business until 1979 when he got tired of the fluctuating market. In 1980 it was
Tandy Corporation/Radio Shack where he held various managerial positions both
in the field and at corporate. Having tired of thirteen years of corporate life
he went back to school to major in horticulture. It seems he acquired a 67 acre
farm in East Texas and wanted to learn various ways to make it profitable.
While in school he took a course in irrigation and fell in love with it. After
acquiring the State license he went to work for a company doing commercial and
residential irrigation. Still not desiring to work for someone else he formed
Harris Irrigation in 1995. Jack says about his company, "We are not cheap, we
are reasonable. If a person wants cheap we are not the company. If you want a
superior installation we are your company. We will never cut corners to save a
few dollars. We strive to be the best and offer quality service and
installation. We are always up front about prices and our service work.
Customer satisfaction is our number one goal. It is a shame, but service work
has kept us busy repairing shabby installations. It seems that some people do
just what it takes to be legal and not go the step further to be good. We are
licensed by the State and insured. The majority of home owners don't even
realize that you have to be licensed to charge for installation and repair work
to any irrigation system. M. I. Harris Bldg. Co. has been around since 1921 and
